Foliage Feeding #1

A lot folks like miracle grow.  I am a fan.  And like composting, there are a few folks out there that like to do it themselves.  THis isn’t tough and if you ever wondered how some people have mamouth plants, at one point, someone baby’ed the heck out of it.  The question is this:

Who did it and what did they do?

Trick of the trade, the spray bottle filled with a great mix.  I have a few things by one of the young plants highest responding nut’s was Home and Garden Multi Enzym (URL) and Magic Green (URL).  I also have a few Botanicare (URL) product that I use to make to concoctions I use for the pray bottle and sometimes water with.
There are many different mixes I’ve tried, and each one has a purpose.  You could be nursing cuttings, and need to go the opposite from established plants.  The nutrient manufacturers help you with this on the label to get you started.  After awhile, you go all mad scientist, And try doing your own.

This where you need to document, document, document.  If you figure out what a crazy species does well with, chances are, you you can let someone know the best way to grow them.  I started the hobby when I couldn’t find anything about growing strawberries hydroponically.  The more I dug, the more I figured out that the only folks into the hobby, profited illegally from it.  “Sad” I thought, “There is there whole other way to do things put the stigma with “grow lights” and “hydroponics” had a stigma people stayed away from.

Not me.   Here’s the first lesson:

Plants take nutrition through their leaves like the roots.  You can actually double up.  With folaige feeding and good nutrients the roots grab, a plant can grow faster.

So tonight I’m make a gallon of foliage feed.

You start with a gallon of water from HEB.  Empty a little out so you can shake and mix easier:

I’m Going with just the magic green and multi enzym. The Magic Green calls for a 10ML to 1L. 1 gallon is the same as 3.78L.  So 38ML to each gallon

This is what it looked like after the magic.  The Multi Enzym calls for a 1ML to 1L.  4ML it is.

So, I got a tool that I highly recommend, a Ph meter.  Cost anywhere from $25-$75 and is well worth it.  Saves hours tryingto  figure out if that 6.5-7.0  is there or not.  Another key is the solution and base.  Once you get your Ph, you have to make adjustments to get it right.  I sucked at the drops and shaker, so the Ph meter was a nice purchase.

Once you have the Ph right you are good to go.  Add to the sprayer and you are done.  Now you have an advantage most don’t.  You can beat just watering.  Its a nice pick up.
